Potty Training Your Puppy

The most common problem with puppies in the house is potty training. I frequently meet people requiring help regarding this problem, however anybody with a piece of spare time and patience can quickly potty train their puppy
In general puppy’s taken home at the age of 45 days have a potty requirement in direct ratio with the times fed during the day. Puppies require emptying their bowels 10 to 30 minutes after being fed in order to make that extra room required. Having said this it is easy to understand that feeding hours must be carefully calculated to ones daily plan in order to give them that extra piece of time for potty training. The most important aspect however will be to feed your puppy at the same time every day. Consistency makes perfect.
1.
After feeding your puppy give it ten minutes and then take your pup to the desired toilet area and let him free, like this he will perform his task. Continuing this for a period of time will make your puppy adjust and be able to hold until the hour has arrived. The puppy must believe that he will be let out in order for this system to work therefore consistency is very important. Puppies generally adapt to this routine in 3 to 7 days. The only drawback is that puppy’s can’t go out until they have completed their primary vaccinations.
2.
this is the most frequently used system, dogs do not like to soil the environment in which they live. A puppy held in a confined area will hold as long as he can. By feeding at the same times and then replacing the puppy back into his confined area again for ten minutes and then being taken out to a place covered with newspaper will force him to open up his bowels immediately. At first accidents in his confined area must be happily accepted he will take a short time to understand that he will be freed for his need. Once the puppy has learnt and adapted he can be let free in the area with the newspaper and he will use the newspaper as his potty.
 3.
A puppy kept in a room covered with newspaper will have to do his business on the newspaper. After a while you will notice that he has his special spots. Once you have figured out his spots remove all the newspaper except for his spots. Each day move the newspapers 5 centimeters towards one another until you are left with a single potty location. Then move the newspapers a meter a day to the final set destination.
4.
A puppy held in a bathroom with toys and food-water bowels at one end and newspaper at the other end generally gets a puppy to automatically start using the newspaper the reason for this is that dogs prefer to use areas that will trap the smell rather than flat shiny surfaces. If your puppy doesn’t automatically use the newspaper a part of urine and stool put in between the newspapers will help to influence him.
Common Mistakes Made In Potty Training:
Always be careful with the cleaning products you use when accidents occur. Any cleaning agent that has ammoniac in it will influence your dog to re-use the same spot. Obviously until your dog is potty trained care must be made to not use such products in daily cleaning else you may end up with a puppy who thinks he has discovered one large potty area.  Ammoniac is the essence of the expensive potty training liquids sold in the market.
Often puppies are told off and sometimes people even push their pup’s nose into its stool. These are not training solutions that work, because dogs only understand if they are punished whilst on the act. In these situations the puppy either ends up thinking that he was told of for doing his business causing him to hide in the future or even to eat up the evidence. Some dogs even push the stool around thinking that that was what was asked from them. Shouting or hitting your puppy after an accident is no solution if anything it will only extend the training period. If your dog understands that going to the loo in a special location makes you angry don’t get cross with the dog when he uses that exact spot when looking for attention, blame yourself.....
